A BeyondTheBox product
A clean page,
with the research built in.
Palimpsa is a writing surface for serious work. Equations, tables, real-time collaboration, and a research panel that reads the papers beside you — arXiv, OpenAlex, CrossRef. One window, no tab-switching.
What it does
Three things, very well.
We build for the small set of people who write, edit, cite, and rewrite for a living. We left the rest to other tools.
A serious editor.
KaTeX maths inline and block, structured tables, task lists, text alignment. Built on TipTap, so the keyboard shortcuts feel right out of the box.
02 — ResearchSources beside the draft.
Federated search across arXiv, OpenAlex and CrossRef. Open a PDF and search inside it. Insert a citation or pull a snippet straight into your paragraph.
03 — CollaborateLive edits, offline-safe.
Real-time collaboration via Yjs CRDTs. Works offline; your local IndexedDB keeps the canonical copy. Reconnect, and the document just merges.

A clean page is back.
Why we built another writing tool — and what it isn't trying to be.
The research panel ships.
Federated search across arXiv, OpenAlex and CrossRef. PDF text search. Citation insert.
Real-time collaboration, offline-first.
Yjs CRDTs over WebRTC, with IndexedDB as the canonical local copy. Why we chose this stack.
